Hawke's Bay is a destination wedding within New Zealand: sun-drenched vineyards, Art Deco Napier, and a quality of light that photographers travel for. I head up here regularly for weddings, so while it's beyond the greater Wellington area, I know the region and how to make the most of a day on the ground.

The big-name vineyard venues, Black Barn, Craggy Range with Te Mata Peak behind it, Mission Estate, Elephant Hill, and Sileni Estates, each offer a distinct backdrop, from manicured gardens to dramatic mountain views. Because it's a longer trip from Wellington (roughly four hours by road), Hawke's Bay weddings carry a travel cost, and I'll always lay that out clearly so there are no surprises. It's well worth planning the timeline around that extraordinary golden-hour light over the vines.
