The Kapiti Coast rewards couples who want coastal light without a long drive: it's barely 45 minutes up State Highway 1 from central Wellington, so travel here is included in most of my collections. The stretch from Paekakariki to Otaki packs in a real range of settings, from the wide sands of Raumati Beach to the native bush of Nga Manu Nature Reserve at Waikanae.

For venues, the vintage character of the Southward Car Museum and the relaxed elegance of The Emerald Hotel both photograph beautifully, and Kapiti Island sitting just offshore gives almost every portrait a sense of place. The coast tends to soften in the late afternoon, so I'll often build your timeline around a golden-hour wander down to the water while your guests settle in.
